Sneak a peek at Lorraine Kelly’s new SS16 range for JD Williams

    by  • Sunday, January 31, 2016 • Uncategorized • 0 Comments

On Wednesday this week, I left the cosy office at Ideal Home HQ and battled the winter winds over Waterloo Bridge – there aren’t many invitations that can lure me outside in January, but afternoon tea at The Savoy is definitely one of them! What’s more (as if home-made scones weren’t tempting enough), it was a chance to discover Lorraine Kelly’s spring/summer 16 homeware range for JD Williams.

The collection is split into two stylish trends: Coastal Mist, with a cool blue and crisp white palette, and Coast to Glen, with pieces that are reminiscent of Lorraine’s Scottish heritage. Comprising 29 items in total, the range includes bedlinen, lighting, soft furnishings and home accessories, all in an easy-to-use palette of grey, blue and white, interspersed with pops of heather or mustard tones.

Lorraine pottered round from table to table to spend some time with each of us, talking excitedly about her new homeware range and what it means to her. She says, “This collection is an invitation into my home and interior style… I’m thrilled to share with you a range that is inspired by my own heritage and personal taste.”

The Coast to Glen range (top) is inspired by natural tones from the Scottish glen, with antique-inspired bronze lanterns. There’s also an adorable Scottie dog motif for a cheerful touch! The Coastal Mist range has a more modern, shoreline feel, with wooden textures, glass lamps and rustic rope details.

Microtrend: Fall in love with marble this season

    by  • Thursday, May 7, 2015 • Uncategorized • 0 Comments

If you think marble belongs to statuesque museum masterpieces or the confines of Ancient Rome, then think again! It’s emerging as one of this season’s hot new micro trends, and the highstreet is awash with the beautiful material. For spring and summer, I love the effect of a pale-toned finish; from large-scale surfaces such as wallpaper, to smaller tabletop accessories, it’s an instant way to add texture, interest and a slightly industrial touch to your scheme.

But don’t be fooled into thinking that marble only goes with tough, industrial schemes. BHS show how pairing it with greys and purples really helps to bring out the grain, whilst giving the material a softer, more feminine edge. Floral touches are another brilliant way to bring marble to life, or why not try iridescent fabrics to add an enlivening bit of sparkle? Check out the Manhattan coffee table and side table (above), for a surprisingly luxe look that works perfectly in a modern living room scheme. Prices start at £359 for a side table.

Indulging in this trend needn’t cost the earth, as shown by H&M’s adorable range of mock marble accessories (above). With ceramic plates at £6.99, mugs at £3.99 and tablecloths at £12.99, it’s a really quick and accessible way to introduce the effect into your home.

For a more deconstructed take on the trend, I love the idea of dual-finish accessories. Pairing marble with wood, as shown by the Lene Bjerre range at Houseology (above), gives the material a raw, rustic vibe. Hanging a range of styles and sizes keeps the overall look organic, whilst white tiles and aluminium accessories have a slightly Scandi edge, too. Prices start from £46.50 for a chopping board. See below for the rest of our marble trend wishlist!

    Hot trend: Horse heads

    by  • Friday, May 27, 2011 • Latest trends • 5 Comments

I was going to use the word ‘severed’ in that title but thought the animal rights people might be concerned (as they were with The Regrettable Glowing Rabbit Lamp Post AKA Bunny-gate)…

This resin horse head wall light is new at Rockett St George. What? Yes. I know: We’ve already seen horsey designs. (I think we called it ‘Equestrian Chic‘ at the time. How pretentious). In fact, ever galloping ahead, we covered this topic in 2009, in the mane. BUT. We were somewhat aHEAD of ourselves. The trend’s evolved. Think: The Godfather (Khartoum). Think classical influences such as the Trojan horse (Why not? After all, Roman and Greek architecture was a huge story at Milan this year: check out the new Intaglio collection from Zoffany featuring architectural columns and pillars…) Think wild west, pioneer, ranch style. Think…erm, chess. Yes! It’s horse HEADS that are all the rage right now…

There’s plenty of horsing around on the high street this season. 1: Dwell‘s new wall trophy horse head is due in-store this June. 2: But, if you can’t wait, you’ll find this silver horse head at Dwell now. 3: Next is selling giant chess pieces to perch on your mantel, including this horse ‘knight’ objet. 4: You can find horse head hooks, here. 5: And fun horse head magnets at Crowbiz.

Everybody needs good NEIGHbours: This striking golden horse head ornament is about to pop up in Habitat’s AW11 range. (And don’t even get me started on magnifying glasses. That’s a whole new post…) – Ellie
