High roller: a fresh new look for walls

    by  • Friday, April 24, 2015 • Decorating and interiors • 0 Comments

Hi, I’m Stephanie Hendries, an editor at Housetohome and theROOMedit and today Home Shopping Spy’s fabulous editor, Alice has very kindly agreed to let me loose on her blog so I can tell you all about my upcoming decorating project (and hopefully get a bit of advice)….

I’m about to embark on a big overhaul of my bedroom. At the moment it’s an all-white room flooded with light, with a few hand-me down pieces of furniture. It’s welcoming and relaxed, but it’s a bit too plain for my liking.

Deliberating over the bedroom’s current lacklustre look, it struck me that statement wallpaper might be the answer. Neutral rooms can be completely transformed with a show-stopping feature wall… With this in mind, I headed over to our shiny new website, theROOMedit to find some inspiration. It wasn’t long before I came across this fabulous bedroom scheme, which uses a pattered roller to create a wallpaper-style effect. Genius.

You can find patterned paint rollers from a company called The Painted House, who have an online Etsy store where they sell a whole host of pretty designs. If you’re feeling extra creative you can use them to perk up old wooden furniture or even to make wrapping paper!

    Products

    1. Tussock patterned paint roller, £20, The Painted House at Etsy, 2. White 1 drawer bedside table, £129, Wayfair, 3. Coco French Bed, £825, Loaf

So what do you think? Should I embrace the paint roller instead of traditional wallpaper? Let me know your thoughts below…

Fancy re-creating the look yourself? Head over to theROOMedit – you’ll find ‘get the look’ shopping lists which are perfect if you are about to embark on an entire room renovation….

The joy of a beautiful desk space

    by  • Friday, August 10, 2012 • Decorating and interiors, News • 8 Comments

After a two week break I’m feeling quite rejuvenated, sunny and actually a little excited to be back at my desk at Ideal Home HQ. On my return our new September issue had just arrived and if you haven’t yet bagged yourself a copy, it is packed full of stylish storage solutions and ideas to help organise your life (it’s in the shops now, hint hint!). One quick flick through and I felt overcome with calm and order. A little something to share are these two home office shoots our stylish stylists did. The first is from our Cash Clever feature on how to create a work area for less than £215…

    Chair, £39, Ikea + Picture frames, £65.96, Ikea + 5 magazine files, £45, The Holding Company + Lamp, £60, John Lewis + Two jars, £4, Sabichi = £213.96. Bargain!

You may have also spotted this fab industrial style home office from our ‘Class of 2012′ decorating feature. I love the metal school-style cabinet from The Old Cinema and the lovely Conran desk for Marks & Spencer and there’s a place for everything with wall mounted storage ideas galore! No excuse for a messy desk. - Alice

Clever!) are Huw Griffith and Tessa Nicholson and they have a lovely 19th century Wharfedale letterpress. Huw is arty and Tessa likes words and so together they have come up with a few posters with fun slogans…
