I’ve just had a sneak preview of textile designer Lucy Renshaw‘s new book Mixed Media and Found Materials (£15.99, due out in September, but you can place an advanced order here). It’s full of beautiful images of Lucy’s innovative textile creations, and shows you how to make stunning furniture, accessories and art for your own home, by recycling discarded ‘stuff’ and letting your imagination run wild.
Cutlery lampshade anyone? Isn’t it fabulous? I’m going to have a go at making something similar myself! Now I know why I keep buying vintage cutlery at car boot sales… Lucy’s currently working on a commission for Liberty of London, and she’s definitely one-to-watch. Her style is so colourful, bursting with fun and joy – and ‘eco’ too – what’s not to love?
Check out the painted wooden clothes pegs on the lamp shade above – what a great idea. And I love the decorative lolly sticks lamp shade below right, too – gorgeous.
Lucy’s book is packed full of amazing projects, so you can have a go at making your own eco creations, and there are lots of hints, tips and techniques to pick up if you’re a crafty type. I love her use of Lazertran – it’s got me very excited about my decal paper vintage plate project (still in the pipeline, no surprises there then!) – EllieTweet
